Sanae was born in Citadel, to a family with very long tradition of worship and respect for the great tree. Servants of what they believed was a sleeping god, they impressed that sense of servitude and respect upon their daughter at a very young age. While both Flying-type enlightened themselves, they were surprised when their daughter awakened to her powers--she did not share any typing with them, but instead seemed to have some very deep tie to nature itself.

Seeing that as some kind of divine sign, the young girl was placed as a shrine maiden for the great tree. She flourished there, and her powers grew. She did, however, miss her friends, although she was able to become friendly with a few of the others who were studying like her, powerful enlightened who helped her come into her abilities. Through them, she learned how to fight, and, alongside her pokémon, realized that she would only become stronger if she were to leave the sanctity of the great tree.

That wasn't to say that she wouldn't be bringing a bit of that faith with her. Hearing about Union after the incident with the great lava god, Sanae knew that that was were she needed to go. Strong people lived there. She could train there, become stronger herself, and, hopefully, convert more people into worshiping their sacred tree.

PERSONALITY

Sanae is a good girl. She does what is asked of her, goes out of her way to help others, and is, in generally, extremely good-natured about it. As a shrine maiden, she has a strong sense of duty to the Moriya shrine's two matron goddesses, as well as to those who worship at the shrine. As a normal girl, this is instead replaced with a strong sense of self and a great desire to want to help others.

Sanae has always been certain of the kind of person that she is, and while that idea of self certainly wavered when she had to make the decision to leave all she knew, she proved that she could adapt quickly. Gensokyo is a world filled with, while at times bumbling and seemingly harmless youkai, some pretty terrifying stuff. Despite this, however, she managed to put the idea that she might be well below the power curve completely out of her mind, showing a great deal of confidence in herself and her "family". Even after hearing the rumors of how formidable she is, Sanae challenges Reimu and the Hakurei shrine outright, demanding that they close their doors and make way for the new kids in town. Even after being defeated (see: skulls busted), she retains this confidence in herself and her ability, using this opportunity to take on the hobby of youkai hunting, something she prides herself in being relatively good at. Simply put, Sanae is sure of herself, and she'll let you know it in the most polite way she can in a given situation.

That said, she can be somewhat detached from those who are different from her. While this did not seem to come up while she resided in the real world, she definitely has a bit of a dismissive air when it comes to the ways of youkai. It's hard to say just where this aloof nature comes from--it's not quite arrogance, but, rather, a lack of caring to get to know them, or differentiate them from each other. Perhaps as a way to further her hobby which, admittedly, was Kanako's idea in the first place, regardless there are those that Sanae can come off as cold toward, even if unintentionally so.

Outside of this, she can have a somewhat compulsive personality, and is easily excitable. Yes, Sanae is a bit of a closet geek. This can be over-exaggerated at times depending upon who you talk to, but if it's something that she is particularly interested in, good luck getting Sanae to calm down; especially when it comes to anything scientific. Robots are her bread and butter. Popular culture gets her excited. Really, she's just a bit overly-excitable, but you can bet if something she knows is mentioned (or, heaven forbid, she finds something from her world in Korindou), she will be all over it. Heck, she'll probably know more about it than anyone else. She likes to be up on that kind of stuff.

Above all else, this girl is loving and loyal. She will do just about anything for her friends, and that goes double for her family. After leaving her world for Gensokyo, they became her life, and while she was dedicated to them as a shrine maiden, her relationship with Kanako and Suwako is insanely close. Woe be it to anyone that even speaks remotely bad about those two. Being separated from the world that she knows, however, has opened her eyes to quite a few new things, and it's hard for her not to throw herself head-first at whatever new experience that comes at her. UFOs, in Gensokyo? Heck yes sign her up! Giant robot messing up people's day, time to be a magical girl hero! Sanae lives for that kind of thing. That said, because many things around Gensokyo are so new to her, she has been known to be a bit gullible, believing things she possibly shouldn't very quickly.

But, at the end of the day, as previously stated, Sanae is a good girl. That distinction of what makes a good girl can be a little muddled at times, but she doesn't really mean to do harm, honest!

POWERS

Sanae's abilities manifest themselves as weather and nature-based powers. Before her first evolution, these will be slight; Sanae may be able to summon a light wind, for example, or a gentle drizzle. Sanae will also start with an abilities similar to Nature Power and Weather Ball, which will make her normal attacks stronger based on the weather.

With each evolution, her powers will grow, and by first evolution, she will be able to summon a strong enough wind to facilitate short range flight. In addition to this, she will be able to subtly affect weather, giving her abilities similar to Rain, Hail and Fog. Plant manipulation will become stronger, and she will be able to help larger plants grow more expediently.

By third evolution, she will be capable of flight over longer distances (not nearly as effective as Fly, of course), and can summon strong wind, rain and other weather conditions. Her grass typing at its peak, she can grow plants by touch, with some limitations--she cannot bring life back to dead things, of course, and much larger plant life such as trees still take a lot of time and energy to grow.

Through all evolutions, Sanae will have the capability to use her Grass and Water typing offensively, through colorful magic arrays. These take shape as stars and other shapes. While powerful, what they are more effective at is catching the enemy off guard. It is very similar to Swift, but without the Normal typing restrictions. This will amp up in effectiveness as Sanae levels.

Sanae's miracles take another, much lesser form as well, and in combat this manifests as her being a status buff fiend. Through this, Sanae will have effects similar to the following moves:
